OLYMPIC NATIONAL
TEAM
Kazakhstan
participated in qualification tournaments of two Olympic Games. The Olympic
national team debuted in qualification tournament, Olympic Games 1996,
Atlanta. At the first stage, Kazakhstan went through to the same group
as Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Our team led by Sergey Gorokhovodatsky,
finished at the first place and reached the second stage together with
China, Korea and Saudi Arabia. The matches were played in Kuala-Lumpur,
Malaysia.

Fomichev led our team at qualification matches participation at Olympic
Games 2000. At the first stage, Kazakhstan teams’ competitors were Uzbekistan,
Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. Our team finished at the first
place and reached the second qualification round. There, they continued
playing per two round tournament with Thailand and Japan national teams
to reach Sydney’s tournament.
