THE VI FOOTBALL CUP PLAY-OFF OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN

15 June 1997 - 10 June 1998

The clubs of the super league were allowed to participate in the competition as well as the clubs of the first league formed in 1994. Due to the rules of the VI Football Cup Play-off of the Republic of Kazakhstan, at each stage of the tournament,  the teams played per one game for relegation. The winners played against each other according to the tournament scale that was set due to the lot, which determined the places for match to be organized. The teams identified as the first were the home teams. In case of draw, first was the rule of the team victory determination by the bigger number of goals scored at the home team's pitch. In other case of draw the extra periods were set by 15 minutes, but, here, the victory was scored by the first goal. Furthermore, the winner was determined by penalties. The semi-finals and a final were now organized in spring-summer period of the next year. It was done for the RK Cup winner to have started playing in the Asian Cup for Cup winners exactly in the same season, i.e. not to play without any skilled players' losses. The final match was always organized in Almaty.

1/2 FINAL

In the middle of the season, in 1997 -1998, "Kairat" was divided into two collectives. The Sports RK Ministry of Defense Committee established the football team, which got the permission of the kazakhstani football management to participate as "Kairat" and pretended to get the right being the successor of the "Kairat" history and traditions of the past years. Many players, officers and some coaches from coaches' headquarters participated in the country championship, 1997. All of them were  called to serve in the Army and thereafter became the new team. The rest who stayed in the previous club, having got the Media support, called such a matter as a chaos and started fighting for their rights restoration. However, the Army team in 1998 season played in the Kazakhstan championship super league and in the Country Cup semi-final. The civilian part of the club kept playing as "Kairat" as well. In 1998, they applied for participation in the super league championship and got the right to ply in the super division. The teams were distinguished as CSKA "Kairat" and FC "Kairat". In the middle of the 2000 - 2001seasons, the new management of the Football Union of Kazakhstan and Almaty Administration came out in the favour of reuniting two teams.
